Adult students training with rattan sticks at Kali 3D Ashburton

We run ten classes a week across five days at our Ashburton dojo, and every session is led personally by a senior instructor, not a rotating roster of assistants. Three of them are dedicated adult beginners classes, so a complete beginner can start on any week without feeling lost.

What each class covers

Adult Kali Beginners: Monday 6:00pm, Wednesday 6:00pm and Thursday 7:00pm. These sessions start from the ground up: stance, distance, angles, and the core striking patterns of Kombatan Arnis. You will handle a rattan stick from your first class, because in Filipino Martial Arts the weapon teaches the hand rather than the other way around. Three beginners sessions a week means you can miss one and still train.

Adult Kali Intermediate and Advanced: Monday 7:00pm, Wednesday 7:00pm and Thursday 6:00pm. Weapons work, knife defence and empty-hand combatives, with partner drills at a pace that builds real pressure-testing. You move up when an instructor judges you ready, not when a calendar says so.

Multi-Dimensional Warriors: Saturday 10:00am. Our pressure-testing session, where the material is run against a partner who is not helping you.

Adults Open Kali: Saturday 11:00am. The weekend session, all levels, and usually the most social. A good option if weeknights do not suit your schedule.

Kids Kali: Tuesday 5:00pm and Saturday 9:00am, for children aged 6 to 14.

What it costs

Your first two weeks are completely free. That is not a trial lesson. It is two full weeks of unlimited classes so you can make a properly informed decision rather than judging a martial art on forty-five minutes.

After the trial, training runs on a monthly subscription. No joining fee, no lock-in contract. We do not charge casual or drop-in fees, because turning up occasionally does not build skill and we would rather not pretend it does.

Memberships

MembershipPriceWhat it covers
Adults Limited$95 / monthTrain once a week, up to 6 classes a month
Adults Unlimited$170.50 / monthTrain as often as you like, every class on the timetable
Kids$55 / monthAges 6 to 14, both Kids Kali classes: Tuesday 5:00pm and Saturday 9:00am

Limited caps at six classes a month, which is about one a week. With eight adult sessions a week on the timetable, anyone training more than that wants Unlimited, and most people move across once they settle in.

Gradings are sat when an instructor judges you ready rather than on a fixed calendar, so they are not a recurring cost you have to plan around. All the equipment you need can be bought here at the club, which means nothing to source online or track down before you start.

We do not use lock-in contracts. If your circumstances change, you tell us and you stop. We would rather you came back in six months than felt trapped now.

Where to find us

We are at 374a Warrigal Road, Ashburton, Victoria 3147, a few minutes from Ashburton station and easy to reach from Glen Iris, Ashwood, Chadstone, Malvern East and Burwood. If you are not sure whether we are a realistic distance from you, call 0438 404 439 and ask.

Common questions

Do I need experience to start?
No. Our Monday and Wednesday classes are structured so a complete beginner can walk in and follow along from the first minute. Most people who join us have never held a training stick before.
What should I bring to my first class?
Comfortable clothes you can move in and a water bottle. That is genuinely all. We train barefoot on matting, and we lend you training sticks for as long as you need them.
How old do I need to be?
Our adult classes suit anyone from roughly 15 upward, and we train people well into their sixties. Filipino Martial Arts rewards timing and structure over size and speed, which is why it stays practical at any age.
Can I just come and watch first?
Yes. You are welcome to sit in on any session before you train. Give us a call on 0438 404 439 and tell us which night you would like to come.
How much does it cost to train here?
Adults train on a monthly membership: $95 a month for up to six classes, or $170.50 a month for unlimited training. Kids aged 6 to 14 are $55 a month and that covers both junior classes. It is a monthly subscription with no joining fee and no lock-in contract, and your first two weeks are free, so you decide after you have trained rather than before.
Do you offer casual or drop-in classes?
No. We do not charge casual class fees. Training runs on a monthly subscription with no joining fee and no lock-in contract, because consistent attendance is what actually builds skill. If you want to try before committing, the two-week free trial exists for exactly that.
What do gradings and private lessons cost?
Lower belt gradings, Levels 1 to 9, are $65. Black belt gradings, Level 10 and above, are $110. Private one-on-one tuition is $75 an hour. Seminars and camps are quoted to what the group needs.

Your first two weeks are free. Come and try a class. No experience needed, no equipment required, no pressure to join.
